6-Day Under Namibia Skies Camping

Your adventure begins in Windhoek, where you’ll collect your fully equipped 4×4 vehicle and hit the road heading northwest toward the striking granite peaks of Spitzkoppe, often called the “Matterhorn of Namibia”. The drive takes you through open savannahs and small rural towns, offering your first taste of Namibia’s vast, untamed beauty.

Arriving at Spitzkoppe in the afternoon, you’ll set up camp at the community-run campsite, nestled among dramatic rock formations. As the sun begins to set, the rocks glow deep red and orange — a perfect time for a short walk to the famous rock arch or to spot ancient San rock paintings hidden in the boulders.

Spend the evening under a brilliant canopy of stars, enjoying your first night of true wilderness camping in Namibia.

Day 2: Spitzkoppe to Etosha

Wake up to the peaceful silence of Spitzkoppe as the morning sun casts golden light over the rocks. After breakfast at your campsite, pack up and begin your scenic drive north toward Etosha National Park, one of Africa’s premier wildlife destinations.

Along the way, pass through the town of Outjo, a good stop for fuel and supplies before entering the park through Anderson Gate in the south. As soon as you’re inside, the safari begins — keep an eye out for springbok, zebra, and even elephants before you reach your camp.

Tonight, you’ll stay at Okaukuejo Campsite, famous for its floodlit waterhole, where you can watch animals like black rhinos, giraffes, and lions come to drink after sunset — all from the comfort of a bench just meters away.

Settle into your camp, cook dinner under the stars, and let the sounds of the bush lull you to sleep.

Day 3:Etosha Full-Day Game Drive

Rise early and get ready for a full day of wildlife exploration in Etosha National Park. With your own 4×4 and the freedom to roam, you’ll follow a network of gravel roads that lead to the park’s famous natural and man-made waterholes, where animals gather in incredible numbers — especially in the dry season.

Start your day near Okaukuejo, then slowly make your way east toward Halali Camp, stopping at iconic spots like Nebrownii, Okondeka, and Salvadora, where you might see lion prides, elephant herds, or even the rare black rhino. Etosha’s vast white salt pan stretches across the landscape, offering a surreal backdrop for your photos.

At lunchtime, stop at Halali, where you can enjoy a break, refuel, and visit its beautiful waterhole. In the afternoon, continue game driving toward your next camp — or simply relax at camp and let the animals come to you.

Day 4:Etosha Safari

Wake up to one final morning in Etosha, and enjoy a relaxed breakfast before heading out on an early self-drive game viewing session. Take your time exploring a few more waterholes — each one offers a different wildlife experience. You might catch a glimpse of a cheetah on the move, or a herd of elephants cooling off in the morning sun.

By midday, you’ll exit the park via the eastern gate or head south from Halali, depending on your route, and continue your journey to a private campsite or lodge on the outskirts of Etosha. This gives you a chance to unwind with a few more comforts — hot showers, a shaded braai (BBQ) area, and often even a pool.

Spend the afternoon at leisure: read, rest, or take an optional guided game drive on private land. As night falls, enjoy the peaceful bushveld atmosphere and cook dinner under the stars — your second-to-last night in Namibia’s wild north.

Day 5:Return Towards Windhoek

After a peaceful morning in the bush, you’ll begin the scenic journey south toward central Namibia. Today is a more relaxed travel day, giving you time to reflect on your safari experiences and enjoy the changing landscapes — from dry savannah to the more lush bushveld near the Waterberg Plateau.

Along the way, you can stop in Otjiwarongo for fuel, snacks, or even a quick visit to the Cheetah Conservation Fund (optional), where you can learn about Namibia’s efforts to protect these incredible predators.

By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at your final overnight stop —at the base of the dramatic Waterberg Plateau, a red sandstone mountain with hiking trails and wildlife. Set up camp and relax in the warm, golden light of the afternoon. You can choose to cook your own dinner or enjoy a meal at the nearby lodge restaurant, if available.

Tonight, sleep in the tranquility of the Namibian bush one last time.

Day 6:Drive to Windhoek to Catch Your Flight

Wake up to your final morning in Namibia’s beautiful wilderness. After breakfast and packing up your gear, you’ll embark on the last leg of your journey back to Windhoek, the capital city.

Enjoy the changing scenery as you drive through open plains and quaint villages. Depending on your schedule, you might have time to stop at a local craft market or grab a coffee before heading to the rental office.

Once in Windhoek, return your fully equipped 4×4 vehicle and complete the necessary paperwork. Reflect on the incredible memories made over the past six days — from towering granite peaks and vast salt pans to unforgettable wildlife encounters.
